Brampton is not new to Monica. It is where she grew up, went to school, built much of her career, served residents, developed community relationships, and continues to raise her family with deep ties to the city. From Brampton classrooms to frontline municipal service, Monica has seen this city through the eyes of students, families, seniors, newcomers, business owners, and residents navigating local services every day. Her connection to Brampton is not just personal. It is practical, lived, and rooted in years of service.
For much of her career, Monica worked at the Region of Peel, serving residents daily through municipal programs and services. Her work connected her directly to the needs of Brampton families, including residents in Wards 7 and 8. Through frontline public service, Monica gained firsthand understanding of the issues residents face, including housing pressures, affordability, access to services, community supports, and the need for responsive local government. Monica has also worked with the City of Brampton, strengthening her understanding of municipal service delivery, resident needs, and the importance of professional, respectful, and accountable local government.
Monica is a double-degree holder with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education in Adult Education. Her education, leadership studies, business experience, and ongoing professional development in governance have strengthened her ability to understand people, systems, organizations, and community needs. Monica is also recognized for her work in leadership, community empowerment, literacy advocacy, public service, and inclusive community building. Her background gives her the ability to listen carefully, communicate clearly, build partnerships, and help turn community concerns into practical action.
As an elected municipal councillor, Monica has served on boards and committees supporting public safety, mobility, economic development, recreation, accessibility, and community wellbeing. Her advocacy and formal delegations have contributed to important community outcomes, including progress on long-awaited community infrastructure and specialized transportation solutions. Professionally, Monica supports inclusive hiring and economic empowerment as a Business Engagement Specialist with Life Directions Employment Supports. She has helped expand National Disability Employment Awareness Month across municipalities and businesses, bringing attention to inclusive workplaces and opportunities for people of all abilities.
